Soulard Fine Arts Building Tour/Open House

For our next meeting the Creative Artisans' section of the St. Louis Artist's Guild plans to visit The Soulard Fine Arts Building on March 7 at 7:00 pm. The artists of the Soulard Fine Arts Building will be on hand to discuss their work and studios. Please let us know if you plan to attend. Tour is limited to 15 persons.

Photos: St. Anthonys tour

Nearly twenty individuals attended the creative artisans' tour of St. Anthonys church on Sat, 2/2. The tour was led by parishioner and church historian Mike Mount.

 

The craftsmanship through the church is extraordinary as exemplified by the confesssionals and massive stained glass windows.

 The stained glass windows are original to 1904 structure and designed by Emil Frei.

Tour leader Mike Mount describes the symbolic elements in a painted icon located within a chapel that is along side the main alter of the church.

 At the conclusion of the tour several participants ate lunch at a large shared table at nearby Urban Eats, a diner that features a fusion of cuisines. Thanks to the St. Louis Drawing and Painting Meetup for posting the tour announcement and its members for the great turnout.

Next Meeting: Tour St. Anthony's Church, Sat, Feb 2, 2013

To all friends of the Creative Artisans Guild, the holidays were busy for all but we are ready to head into the coming year. The Creative Artisans Guild is a way to connect with other artist and artisans. Our next get together will be a little out of the ordinary. My daughter was part of a Catholic Choir group and the performances were in some really magnificent churches. One that I found to be quite extraordinary was St. Anthony’s on the South side of the city.

This church has celebrated its 150 year birthday and has gone through quite a bit of changes over that time. Church historian, Mike Mount, will guide us through the history and give us insights into the magnificent Artisan work throughout the building.

This daytime meeting is at 11 am, Saturday, Febuary 2, so that we can see the stained glass and see the building as it was meant to be seen. The church is at 3140 Meramec. Check the location link Here 

Maybe we can go for lunch after at the Bevo, which is not very far away, Or if someone has a better idea in the area, let me know.

Next meeting Nov 1, Studio visit with Garry McMichael

Artisans and guests are invited to a studio visit with artist, photographer and designer Garry McMichael on Thursday, Nov 1, 7pm at Digital Imaging and Design, 1926 Allen, St. Louis, MO. Garry has integrated art, creativity and entreprenuership into a successful professional life. He is an active member of several art organizations including Art St. Louis, Gateway Pastel Artists, Greater St. Louis Art Association as well as the St. Louis Artists' Guild. In addition to conducting workshops to train artists to photograph their own work, he has facilitated presentations by nationally known artists and art career consultants, coordinated travels and retreats especially for artists and is currently producing the publication of the Artist and Gallery Directory, a guide to art in the Bi-state area.

 

Garry exhibits his art and photography in several local and regional venues. His work was included in the recent "Lay of the Land" show at the St. Louis Artists' Guild and will be seen in the upcoming prestigous "Art Saint Louis XXVIII" exhibition.

 

Garry has agreed to allow the Creative Artisans' section to conduct a business meeting in his unique city studio after his presentation. The main agenda of discussion will be ideas for future plans and activities for Creative Artisans'.

Next Artisans' meeting, June 7

We are going to visit with Mitch Horstmann. He is a Sculptor, but his main "thing" is Mold making.
